Welcome!
With excitement, energy, and a healthy appreciation of the challenges ahead, I ask for your vote for Board of Selectmen on election day, April 2nd, 2011.
I love Arlington, and I love living here. I value our community, its spirit, and its sense of history and tradition. For Arlington to continue to be a vibrant and wonderful place to live, it will require us to make tough choices. More than ever, it will require strong leadership and the time and effort of good volunteers.
I’m running because I believe that I can help meet the challenges we face.
The biggest challenge before us is our financial situation. Six years ago, we worked together as a community and developed a five-year plan: we passed a property tax override which we saved and used according to a spending plan, and kept faith with the voters’ trust. That plan worked. Now we need a renewed plan, and renewed community support, to guide us through new challenges of the next five years.
My first goal as Selectman will be to work together to develop and pass a new plan. Managing our finances will take sacrifices from everyone. We must ensure that the plan is fair and reflects our priorities and values, and we must choose good tools to measure and guide the town’s spending. My experience will help guide these choices.
Many of you have worked with me during my years of service on the Finance Committee and in Town Meeting. I have earned a reputation as a tough questioner, a good listener and a consensus builder, and I will bring those needed skills to the Board of Selectmen.
It will take strong stewardship to keep us on track as we navigate the coming years. I will always keep in mind our shared goals, vision, and values while we work together to maintain our vital Town services, the strong schools that are our future, and the sense of community that makes Arlington a very special place to call home.
Over the course of the campaign I hope to meet you, listen to your concerns and thoughts on moving Arlington forward, and share my ideas with you. I want to earn your respect and your support. I ask for your vote on April 2nd.
Sincerely,
Dan Dunn
